Founder Lauren grew up surrounded by adventure and curiosity, eventually settling in Byron Bay — first in a van, then a treehouse. In 2019, Lauren reconnected with a tailor she had met four years earlier in India. Over two weeks, hand-sketched designs were transformed into garments, and The Silk Co was born. The brand describes itself as "a lifestyle, a feeling, a sense of freedom" — created for wanderers, dreamers, and voyagers. Every collection is named and story-led, inspired by journeys, places, and narratives. The Waitoa collection was shot aboard a 120-year-old pearling lugger that Lauren had dreamed of owning for nine years. Garments are hand-crafted by a small boutique tailor in India. The relationship spans over a decade. Working conditions are fair and safe. Production is intentionally small-batch — when a piece sells out, it may not return. --- ## Fabric & Materials ### Raw Silk (Noil Silk) The signature fabric. Pure Noil silk with a matte finish and natural texture. Ethically produced — manufacturers wait for the silk moth to naturally exit the cocoon before harvesting. During this natural process, mulberry leaves and sticks sometimes become part of the cocoon and are woven into the fabric. Two grades are used: - One ply — lightweight, slightly sheer. Best for spring and summer. - Two ply — thicker, opaque, still lightweight. Year-round versatility. Raw silk is delicate yet durable. It drapes effortlessly and becomes more beautiful with age and wear. ### Other Natural Fabrics The brand also uses 100% cotton, cotton anglaise, cotton lace, cotton slub, wool, linen, and modal silk blends. All natural fibres designed to return to the earth with minimal environmental footprint. ### Care Instructions - Hand wash in cool water with eco-friendly detergent - Gently wring and shade dry (inside out) - Steam iron only - No machine washing, no tumble drying - Fabric resists wrinkles when handled properly --- ## Women's Products ### Blouses & Tops #### Delilah Blouse URL: /products/delilah-blouse Cropped blouse inspired by old-world heirloom pieces.
